THE 3 PERSPECTIVES OF BIAS

In any biased interaction, there are typically three roles: the target, the perpetrator, and the bystander. The target, at the sharp end, experiences emotions ranging from confusion and hurt to anger and isolation. The perpetrator, often unaware of their offensive behavior, is influenced by societal conditioning or a lack of exposure to diverse groups. Bystanders, witnessing the bias, have a unique position; they can either perpetuate the bias through silence or intervene to support the target. Recognizing and understanding these roles is crucial in addressing and mitigating the effects of bias.
